Learning to Make Do & Mend

My mother is a phenomenal seamstress!  I remember the jumpers, dresses and pinafores she made for me (and my Cabbage Patch doll!) growing up.  She made my Daddy a three-piece suit, my sister-in-law's wedding dress and dresses for her bridesmaids.   When people in the neighborhood needed alterations, they didn't go into town to the dry cleaners.  They came to my Momma!  You would think coming from such a background, I would possess such skills.  Think again!  I'm not sure I could even manage to turn a sewing machine on!

Maybe its not too late for me to learn.  So, I'm starting with the basics - the very basics!  Thank goodness for Youtube!

  1. My mom was a talented seamstress too, and made us matching dresses which were very cute. That is a great skill.

  2. I'm sure you can sew too! I only took some sewing classes in Hom Ec in High School. The rest I taught myself. I would love to take some classes to learn how to achieve better quality. I would never be able to do alterations or make a wedding dress! Your Momma was definitely talented.

  4. Good for you!!! That is quite an undertaking! I never had the patience for sewing, though my mom did faithfully try to interest my sisters and I! Can't wait to hear how your skills progress!
